Very Nice

Excellently done on the japanese theme part. Powerful melodies you got going on there.

I think what you need to work on is instrumentation, maybe introduce some staccato violins to play along with the melody?
Try adding a pad into the song, it feels a bit empty at times.
What this really needs is some samples to spice things up, it sounds kinda warlike so many have someone faintly yelling in the distance, or maybe troops marching, it could add a nice ambient effect.

hey it'd be awesome if you checked out some of my stuff :D

Wow

I love the songs compostion, really catchy and powerful. Can't get enough of it. Try to make this a bit longer maybe?

I don't know about your skill level with the program (FL?) But maybe try adding some FX to the instruments, I can hear a lot of presets in there. Try layering instruments together to make a more unique and interesting effect.

Excellent job!

I've got some songs which are kinda falling under a bit, check one out? :D

Excellent for a first submission

For you first submission this is actually really good.

It was pretty catchy and your instrument choice was effective. You seem to understand how the FX and stuff works (im hearing SO much reverb :p) so I suggest maybe working on the EQ of the song. The bass is really drowning out the rest of the song.

I liked the pads in the song, but they sound really familiar. What you can do to make it sound more unique is combine different pads and play them together.

The intro was a bit long but I REALLY like when the song picks up at 2:35.
Considering the song was 6 minutes long, I was expecting it to get repetitive, but I'm surprised it wasn't at all, it was really interesting to listen to.

Well done!

I have been doing this for awhile. :P And for the longest time, I thought I was EXCELLENT, That is, until I realize Newgrounds had a section full of musicians. :P I was blown away.

But I do understand effects, and the bass saturation was likely my compensation for doodoo headphones. :D

I'll get back to work on it for a reentry.

I've layered pads before.
Actually sounds like a great idea.
Thank you.

As for repetitiveness, that's something I really strive to avoid. Hahhah!
I like to add and subtract melodies and all that jazz.

Well, thank you for my first ever review here and Newgrounds.
I will definitely check out your stuff.

Excellent

Excellent concept, you really nailed it. I can see this in a movie or a flash.

Your choice of instruments was great, the flute/pipe or w/e gave a nice exotic Oriental feel and the beat was an excellent addition without taking over the song.

The EQ is excellent, the mix was really strong. My only complaint is it got a bit repetitive down the road. Sometimes a song doesn't need to be long to be good, you gotta be careful you don't overdo it.

Lamplighter responds:

Thank you, HMS! I'm glad you liked this! I'd really like to see someone use this in their flash, or even if they made a flash about the story would be great. The instruments I used seem to be pretty popular, which I'm surprised I got right with my first real track. I know it's repetitive, but I like longer songs and I got a bit too tired of this song to add new things to spice it up. Maybe I'll work on that later.

Thanks again for the review, HMS!

Yess

Every 8-bit song is amazingly epic, it's the forgotten genre by many :p good old NES

This sounds simply amazing, super catchy and never gets boring, it's what music is about :D

Kudos for doing 8-bit lol

Hades responds:

Haha, I've always loved 8-bit music, and then I came across this beautiful free VSTi called Peach (you should seriously try it out!) which synthesizes 8-bit tunes perfectly. Of course, the dumbass that I am, I forgot all about it until a few days ago. :P

When I found it, I felt it would be wrong not to make a song with it, so I wrote this little sucker, and I have to admit I'm happy with the way it turned out. I'm really glad you think it's good!

As always, thanks a lot for the review! ;D

Well... Nice!

The composition was brilliant, it was all epic and just plain amazing, I can really see this in a movie. You blended all the guitar strings and horns so perfectly and the drums add a sort of exotic twist at some points.

You didn't ace the arabic theme but you were pretty close, the arab style melodies were close but still kinda shallow and stereotypical. Something you REALLY should add and would really help with the arabic theme are arabic drum solos, check out some arabic songs and you'll see what I mean, I'm mainly talking about the hand drums, hard to explain so check em out.

On a technical level, the mix was pretty strong, but you quieted things too much when you were mastering and the EQ felt a little bland, maybe raise a little high band or add emphasis on the low band? It all sounded centered on middle too much.

Bottom line, this is a GREAT song, really powerful, gonna check out your other stuff :D

sigh

I don't know what to say, the song isn't too bad itself, but everyone says you ripped this... gonna stick to the middle, but if you did rip this, not cool.

Pretty nice..

I personally don't like rap, but it's pretty catchy, don't know how to say this, but your rapping isnt great, some of the other stuff I've listened to and some rappers I've seen live have a more powerful voice. You don't really hit the same emotions.

Everything else in the song was pretty epic, well done.

this is just one song bro chk my other shit out

Good but..

Well not bad at all, though feels very generic, especially beat wise, pad wise and everything.

Composition is nice, but the piano at the beginning sounds very sloppy as an instrument, I think something you did with delay maybe? I'd have it come in strong without an echo/delay then as the string pads come in have the delay effect come in.

Some fills for the beat would be pretty nice, complex beats usually make these types of songs.

Like to see what this becomes, well done

Megamix? nice!

Excellent job, this is really one of your highlight songs. Amazingly catchy like all your songs, stayed interesting throughout and your FX were pretty amazing, mix was perfect. The hats in the beat feel a bit generic and just felt like they needed and effect twist but barely noticeable anyways. I liked the piano-like synth at around 1:20, that whole part reminded of that DDR song, castles in the sky.

On a technical level, the quality was excellent and there was no interference or noise and no clipping as far as I could tell.

Melody gets a little repetitive at some points but either way, the things you kept adding covered it up, I was actually looking for the repetition so that's probably why I'm picking on it :p

The ending is really the main part I dont like, I hate anything that ends with a high pass cuz it hurts my poor ears :( a low pass on that part wouldve done wonders especially with the beat IMO

Hmm, I really like this, but because this is a series and there's more to come I'll give this a 9.

Btw, Echos is almost done, one of my best songs yet, I'll pm you when it's done :D

Hmmm maybe your headphones arn't the best? I really mastered the hi pass a lot because i knew it would hurt some people's ears but i really made it listenable.

Thanks for the awesome review!
